Rockstar Maryland native Grenique was raised in a household pulsating with creativity and music. Born to a poet mother and a percussionist father in a family that cherished artistic expression, Grenique’s unique name—a fusion of ‘Greg’ from her father and ‘unique’ from her mother’s foresight—became a harbinger of her distinctive identity.
Her upbringing immersed her in a diverse musical palette, encompassing rock, R&B soul, hip hop, and jazz. Influenced by iconic artists like Prince, Chicago, Billy Joel, Salt n Pepa, Mary J Blige, En Vogue, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, George Duke, Phyllis Hyman, Minnie Riperton, Michael Jackson, DeBarge, Aerosmith, Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan, The Jones Girls, Patrice Rushen, Patti LaBelle, and Eric B and Rakim, Grenique’s musical journey blossomed. Initially performing with Gogo bands and girl groups during her teenage years, Grenique eventually steered towards a solo career, feeling a deep connection to her own musical visions.
